William H. Danforth founded Purina in 1894. From the start, Danforth imbude the company with an acute sense of commitment. He built on fundamental values that have been passed down throughout the generations of Purina employees.
In 1928 the first Canadian plant opened in Woodstock, Ontario. A second followed in 1938 in LaSalle, Quebec. Today, Purina produces more than 300 different brand-name products in its eight plants located across eastern Canada.
Creativity and continuous improvement, sustained effort, quality, respect for others, and service are the corporate values represented by the Purina Checkerboard, one of the world's most recognizable trademarks.
A Daring Man
If Danforth had not been an innovative man, Purina would have never seen the light of day; and this enterprise would never have been successful enough to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 1994.
These days, Mr. Danforth's checkerboard motto, "Think Tall, Stand Tall, Smile Tall, Live Tall" lives on in the hearts and minds of Purina's employees.
