Feed Textures

TEXTURED
The key advantages to textured feed (or sweet/coarse feed) is palatability and visibility. Textured feed generally contains a pellet containing minerals and vitamins, processed grains, whole grains and molasses. Since horses can sort the grains, textured feeds are not ideal for group feeding systems.

PELLETS
The key advantage to pelleted feed is uniformity, so that every bite is the same, thus preventing feed segregation. Pellets or “Checkers" as we call them, increase starch digestibility and are convenient and easy to handle.

CHUNKS
Chunks are a significantly larger form of pellets. They have the same advantages as pellets but their larger size considerably slows down the rate of intake. Chunks are excellent for high fibre feeds.

EXTRUDED
Extrusion is the process of cooking the feed under pressure with heat and moisture. Extrusion greatly increases starch digestibility in the small intestines and therefore reduces incidences of gas colic. The extrusion process also sterilizes the feed, which decreases the chance of ingredient allergies. Furthermore, extrusion decreases the rate of intake by 50%, which is ideal for horses that bolt their feed.

MULTI-PARTICLE
Multi-particle is an innovative feed type that unifies that best of extruded and pellets into a complete mix. The extruded component brings increased starch digestibility as well as added fat and balanced Omega 3 & 6. The pellet contains the highest quality fibres (beet pulp) and essential vitamins and minerals. Then we enhance it all with a savoury flavour, saving you the time and money of mixing.
